The Curious About Culture Festival is a culturally-informed,
collaborative project led by The Creative Co-Operative

The Curious About Culture Festival is a one-day summer event hosted by The Creative Co-Operative and supported by The City of Melbourne (Naarm). We will be celebrating Melbourne’s (Naarm’s) diverse community of female creatives, entrepreneurs and performers.

The event schedule is loaded with live art, fashion and workshops from a range of cultures and emerging communities.

Why we do this

To amplify the voices and stories of underrepresented local artists, creatives and business owners that are from emerging communities.

Putting a talented line up of women in the spotlight, providing a platform to share their talents, meet new people and unapologetically represent themselves.

This is an opportunity to bring the Melbourne (Naarm) community together and drive community connection through accessible and sustainable practices over unique stories, goods and wares previously untold. As such, contribute to the City of Melbourne’s vision and goals.

What to expect

The event will cover art, music, fashion, food, craft, sustainability, culture, knowledge and innovation.

Event highlights include:

  • Workshops with craft boss Kitiya Palaskas

  • Fashion photo shoot corner

  • Traditional Henna artistry

  • Samba performances and interactive Samba dancing

  • Art installations

Plus over 40 women-led performances, stalls and social enterprises with eclectic wares. In #UniquelyMelbourne style, expect good music, food stalls and art.

Organisers of the CAC Festival

We exist to lift the barriers of economic access faced by migrant Women of Colour. This is achieved by providing them with paid, professional work and hiring WOC to our organisation which we have for over 21 women.

Another way we achieve this is through our impact program, community projects and events to raise awareness and address issues like systemic racism.

Our mission is to engage and include all of society and that starts with amplifying under-represented communities through community initiatives like this.

Accessibility and sustainability are the pillars of how we operate as a proud City of Melbourne business.

Why are we different?

We are a proud City of Melbourne business and are aligned with the City of Melbourne’s goals which include driving accessibility and sustainability not just by delivering this event but as a social enterprise.
